Max Dougherty, M.D., Ph.D.

Studies & experience: Max is a physician-scientist interested in how somatic mutation and clonal evolution relate to aging, malignancy, and resistance to cancer treatment. He is currently completing his hematology and medical oncology fellowship at Mount Sinai after completing his internal medicine residency at the same institution. Previously he received his A.B. from Harvard University and his M.D./Ph.D. from the University of Washington. He believes that taking lessons directly from patient care will lead to asking the right questions in lab that are most likely to have an impact on human health.

Hobbies: A someday competent guitar player, formerly competent runner, grateful to be close to Central Park, enjoys complaining insightfully and a good sandwich.

Future goals: To contribute to our understanding of how drug resistance develops in blood cancers and use this to develop new more effective treatments, to better characterize clonal evolution to understand how preventative measures can be used to help patients who are at elevated risk for developing cancer.
